23 Nov Salt EB cannot change the world but we can make a difference
In association with Rise Against Hunger, Salt EB once again joined the battle against hunger.
We provided funding for 50 000 meals which will go to early childhood development centres across SA. Our contribution will feed 192 children, 5 meals a week for an entire year!
Why do we do this?
In South Africa, 26% of our population faces hunger every single day of their lives. A further 28% are on the brink of facing hunger. That’s over 50% of our fellow South Africans. Hunger is more than an empty tummy – it prevents physical activity of any kind. No kicking a ball around like kids should. No looking for a job because you just can’t get up. Hunger means loss of hope and with that, the real tragedy of lost potential. The debilitating impact of COVID-19 and a restricted economy will cause these percentages to spike even further.
One always has a choice. One, to debate ‘food security’ and the reasons for these shocking statistics. Or to do something about it because on the flipside of the stats, there’s a desperate parent and a child without hope. We cannot change the world but we can make a difference!
